High Density Pcm Magnetic Tape Recording
The Bell & Howell Enhanced-NRZ recording reproducing technique for bit packing densities up to 40,000 per track inch is described in this paper. Utilization of the pulse code modulation format of Enhanced-NRZ achieves this high density with a bit error rate of one in ten million. Bell & Howell’s standard VR-3700B instrumentation tape recorder and wideband instrumentation recording tape are used...
متن کاملMagneto-Dendrite Effect: Copper Electrodeposition under High Magnetic Field
Ionic vacancy is a by-product in electrochemical reaction, composed of polarized free space of the order of 0.1 nm with a 1 s lifetime, and playing key roles in nano-electrochemical processes. However, its chemical nature has not yet been clarified. In copper electrodeposition under a high magnetic field of 15 T, using a new electrode system called cyclotron magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) electrode ...
متن کاملDesign and Performance of a Magnetic Head for a High-Density Tape Drive
The design of a magnetic head for use in the tape drive portion of the IBM 3480 Magnetic Tape Subsystem required that advances be made in track density and linear recording density while meeting requirements for signal quality, manufacturability, and reliability. The design that was developed to fulfill these needs combines ferrite pole-pieces, magnetoresistive read elements, and planar-deposit...
متن کاملHigh Magnetic Field Performance of a GEM-TPC
A large volume time projection chamber (TPC) has been proposed as main tracking device for a detector at a future linear ee collider. Gas electron multipliers (GEMs) are studied as potential replacement of the conventional wire based gas amplification system of TPCs. This talk presents recent results from R&D activities with a small GEM-TPC prototype. The spatial resolution was measured for dif...
متن کاملStudies of Avalanche Photodiode Performance in a High Magnetic Field
We report the results of exposing a Hamamatsu avalanche photodiode (APD) to a 7.9 Tesla magnetic field. The effect of the magnetic field on the gain of the APD is shown and discussed. We find APD gain to be unaffected in the presence of such a magnetic field.
